BAGA BEACH

Baga Beach, the most popular beach at Goa is located 15kms to the north of Panaji. A part of the Calangute beach which is connected to each other by a 3 km long road, Baga is located at the north end of the contiguous beach stretch that starts from Sinquerim, Candolim, leads to Calangute and then to Baga. Thousands of tourists visit this comparatively quieter crescent shaped beach annually which is mainly known as a fishing coast. One can see a large number of fishermen in their traditional attire with their daily catch, especially in the mornings and evenings.

The coast line of Baga starts at Fort Aguada, continues as the Sinquerim beach, followed by the beaches of Candolim, Calangute and then merges into Baga beach which lies close to a rocky, wooded headland. It has been named after the Baga Creek, which empties into the Arabian Sea at the north end of the beach.

It is a small beach but with plenty of local shops, cafes, beach shacks and good restaurants. It is the water sports activities and the hopping 'shack life' where one can enjoy the delicious Goan food and thirst-quenching Feni, that make Baga an ideal tourist destination in Goa. The beach drops steeply to the water where fishing canoes make use of the good boat launching conditions and provide rides.

Nightlife in Baga is the liveliest as it is a fusion of the Western with the Goan. Tito's Bar, one of Goa's most famous discotheques cum bar and restaurant is located right at the Baga beach. Kamaki and Mambo’s are the other famous bars in Baga. The newest addition to the Baga Beach scenery is “The Big Tap”, a microbrewery with a large restaurant and a dance floor featuring live music several times a week.

Baga beach is famous for the Saturday flea market also known as Saturday night market which provides the tourists with a great shopping experience. The beach is almost always alive with music performances by local musicians.

To the North of Baga are the beaches of Anjuna, Vagator, Morjhim and Ashvem. The beaches of South Goa are Bogmalo, Utorda, Sunset Beach, Colva Beach, Benaulim Beach, Varca Beach and Cavelossim.
